About Project Kalon

The founders of Project Kalon had attended some Meet-the-People sessions and realised that there were some seniors who had amputated legs due to diabetes and were also living alone. Thus, the founders wanted to do something to help seniors age healthily, step out of their homes and stay socially connected.

Project Kalon was hence founded in 2022, the brainchild of ideation amongst the  founding team. It is a student initiated, ground up and youth led project. Project Kalon collaborates with numerous organisations around Singapore, such as nursing homes, active aging centres and more. Project Kalon volunteers with these organisations, providing a platform for all these seniors here in Singapore to learn and play the sport of Pétanque.

We believe that Project Kalon can improve and change the lifestyles of many seniors in Singapore, not only physically but also mentally. Through these volunteer sessions, not only do we strive to achieve our mission, we also hope to leave a legacy with seniors continuing to play Pétanque amongst themselves to continue staying healthy even after we leave.

 

Our sessions are very much welcome by the seniors we work with, with many eager to take part in our mini competitions. We strive to hold meaningful and fun-filled sessions for the seniors, so that they look forward to our coming while still maintaining a healthy lifestyle. 

 

Project Kalon is now hosted regularly with 10 different centres across Singapore. Volunteers are able to pick the centres closest to their house to volunteer at, at their own convenience. This makes Project Kalon extremely lucrative and appealing to many youth, as they can volunteer when they can, when they want, without having to commit on a long-term basis.

 

Project Kalon has now garnered the support of 120 volunteers. In a matter of 6 months, Project Kalon has already touched the lives of 520 seniors.  Joining us will mean joining a meaningful community of youth  eager to serve those around us :)
